 The Situation: 911 is called by a woman who claims that an African-American male came into the office inquiring about a job and while away from the desk, making copies of his job application and resume, the Defendant took her wallet. She reported that upon confronting him and picking up the phone to call police, he returned the wallet and ran out, leaving behind all his information in the application and resume. She later identified the defendant out of a photo line-up. Defendant was arrested for burglary. 

Result: We persuaded the State to reduce the charges to misdemeanor petit theft based on the facts. At trial we exposed the victim’s lack of credibility and the detectives’ inadequate investigation.  The jury returned a Verdict for the Defendant of NOT Guilty. 

 The Situation: Defendant walks out of retailer without paying for merchandise. Defendant was arrested and charged with petit theft. 

Result: We persuaded the State to allow Defendant into a diversion program. The Defendant completed the program and all charges were dismissed.
